Course Designations on the Kolbe High School Transcript
Kolbe Academy offers much flexibility in receiving high school credit on the transcript. Parents may create their own elective courses, modify Kolbe courses, or substitute with alternate curriculum while still receiving credit on the transcript so long as four written and graded samples of work (one per quarter) are turned in for each course. We do, however, have a way of designating coursework that has followed the specific Kolbe Academy framework as laid out in the course plans. These designations require particular samples of student work to be turned into Kolbe in order to receive the designation on the transcript.
- Kolbe Academy Honors Course Designation: H
- Kolbe Academy Core Course Designation: K
Any student pursuing any diploma type may request to be awarded these designations so long as they have completed the requirements and turned in the appropriate sample work. Summa Cum Laude diploma candidates, however, must pursue and request one of these designations in all of their coursework. Further, Summa students must request the Kolbe Honors (H) designation in the following manner:
- In 9th grade: at least 1 Honors Course in Theology, English, Literature, or History
- In 10th grade: at least 2 Honors Courses in Theology, English, Literature or History
- In 11th grade: at least 3 Honors Courses in Theology, English, Literature or History
- In 12th grade: 4 Honors Courses in Theology, English, Literature and History
The Kolbe Academy Honors Course Designation (H) is awarded to students who have completed the honors course of study as specified in our course plans. In general, students pursuing the Kolbe Honors (H) designations in Theology, English, Literature or History must do all of the readings and complete 5 of the 7 weekly papers each quarter. Further, they should have discussions or write informal essays in response to the remainder of the weekly paper topics as these are major themes and will appear in some way on the final exam. Certain course sample work must be turned in for credit but typically includes turning in the quarterly exam and one weekly paper topic essay for each quarter. For Kolbe Honors (H) in math and science, students will be following specific guidelines outlined in the course plan and are required to turn in certain sample work including all exams and other samples as specified in the course plan.
The Kolbe Academy Core Course Designation (K) is awarded to students who have completed the Kolbe Core course of study in a course. In general, students pursuing the Kolbe Core (K) designations in Theology, English, Literature or History must do all of the readings, but only need to complete 1 or 2 of the 7 weekly papers each quarter. However, students should be sure to have discussions or write informal essays in response to the rest of the weekly paper topics as these are major themes and will appear in some way on the final exam. For the Kolbe Core (K) designation to be awarded, all exams must be turned in for credit. For Kolbe Core (K) credit in math, science, and language, students will be following specific guidelines outlined in the course plan and are required to turn in certain sample work including all exams as specified in the course plan.
Finally, our transcripts designate coursework that has been accomplished through college courses and transfer courses from alternate institutions. Each designation appears on the transcript as a small letter indicating the type of course if applicable:
- College Course Designation: C
- Transfer Course Designation: T
To receive credit for college or transfer credits, the transcript of grades issued by the institution is all that is required. Sample work is NOT required for these designations. |
