Physics Lab

This course is a supplemental hands-on live lab that will replace some (but not all) of the virtual labs encountered in the core or AP physics program.

Course Description

Students will perform hands on experiments guided by the teacher and will have the opportunity to ask questions about course topics.  New material will not be presented in this lab. The material reviewed and practiced in the lab will follow the same timeline as the course material. Some assignments completed in lab may replace course work, but lab students will still be expected to complete virtual labs. Physics lab will meet approximately every other week and will run for one and a half hours. Homeschool and self-paced students are welcome to sign up for these labs even if they are not taking the corresponding online course.

Course Expectations

This course is a supplemental live lab to review and reinforce concepts already taught during the week in physics and AP Physics 1.  Students will perform hands on experiments guided by the teacher and will have the opportunity to ask questions about course topics. Students taking this lab course will need to be prepared to start their live lab when class begins.  A lab notebook will be kept, and students will write lab reports in their science course on the labs they perform in this course.  New material will not be presented in this lab, however some prep work may be required on the part of the student to be ready for lab. The material reviewed and practiced in the lab will follow the same timeline as the course material. Some assignments completed in lab may replace course work, but lab students will still be expected to complete virtual labs.

Course Texts
  • Principles of Physics, Digital Text only
  • Virtual Physics Labs, Digital
  • TBD materials list for doing hands-on lab will be available May 1.
