An Education That Deepens with Time: My Journey from Kolbe to College

Freshman 21-Day Trip: learning, climbing, and discovering more than the trail.

Kolbe Academy helped prepare me for Wyoming Catholic College through its rigorous academics and by introducing me to the classics. Reading many of the classics in Kolbe Academy helped me understand them better and get more out of them when reading them again in college. Many people feel that if they have read the classics in High School, they do not need to read them again in college. However, a large part of the beauty of the classics is that they can be read again and again and still have new meaning. Such profound books not only can be read a second time, they beg to be read multiple times. Reading the classics a second time allowed me to engage deeper with the themes of the books and discover new layers of meaning.

Another aspect of Kolbe’s academics that prepared me for attending Wyoming Catholic College was writing papers. A large part of my education at Wyoming Catholic College is writing papers about the things we read about. Writing is important for developing thoughts and discovering what you think about certain topics or ideas. Kolbe Academy helped prepare me for writing papers in college by teaching me to organize my thoughts in writing and by teaching me to use citations from texts to support and develop my ideas.

Perhaps, though, the most important way my education at Kolbe prepared me for college was through being a Faith centered education. There are not many schools as dedicated to the Faith and where the Faith dictates so much of our daily lives. Because high school and college years are so instrumental in shaping who one becomes, it is crucial that one spends those years in such a way to help one live a life dedicated to serving God. In our culture we are in such great need of young men and women who are in love with the Good, the True, and the Beautiful. Both the formation I received at Kolbe Academy and am receiving at Wyoming Catholic College have helped me develop a great deal in these respects. The education I am receiving at Wyoming Catholic College truly feels like the next logical step for my education to have taken.
