Kolbe Virtual College Fair Checklist

Kolbe Virtual College Fair Checklist

There’s something special about that exciting time as high school graduation approaches and official plans begin for what is next to come! This week Kolbe Academy will be hosting two fantastic and FREE virtual college planning events!

The first is the Kolbe Academy College Planning Webinar on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 (Watch the recording!) Selecting the right college is a big decision! This webinar provides guidance and helpful tips for high school juniors and seniors regarding planning timelines, admission requirements, and choosing the right college.

The second exciting event is Kolbe Academy’s Virtual College Fair on Friday, October 29, 2021, 8 AM – 6 PM Pacific Time (Register here!) which will include some great keynote speakers and scheduled presentations by over a dozen participating colleges. There will also be post-presentation breakout sessions for each school for an excellent opportunity to ask questions and find out more about each college. Check out the full program here! You won’t want to miss it!

As always, the most important step in this process will be to approach each step of it prayerfully. Be open to the Lord’s guidance on this exciting decision or discernment!

If you attended the College Planning Webinar, you will have much more thorough notes to help in your preparations… but we wanted to share a quick checklist to help you make the most of your College Fair visit!

Before the event:

-Familiarize yourself with the basics of each of the colleges that will be at the fair (such as size, location and tuition). Pre-make a sheet or note space for each college, ready for day-of notes.

-Make a list of your important questions and have them ready before the event. Leave the list open-ended in case another question comes up during the event. Important questions to ask may include details about financial aid, classroom sizes, degree programs, housing, campus ministry or other clubs or sports.

On the day of the event:

-Dress for the occasion. While it doesn’t need to be a fancy suit, make sure to be dressed appropriately to make a good impression.

-Take notes! If you are hearing many speakers and finding out about different colleges, it will be important to jot down notes about each as you go so that you can review them later. Having a page pre-made per school could keep things organized.

-Get contact information for the speakers and representatives.

-Ask questions. Keep your list handy and add to it if needed during the event.

After the event:

-Review your notes with your family. Be sure to jot down anything you might have forgotten to before, and prioritize any schools you want to learn more about.

-Send 'Thank You' notes to the representatives who took the time to speak with you, especially those with the college(s) you are considering applying to.

-Research the colleges further. It will be impossible to cover everything during these presentations, so be sure to learn more about (or plan an actual visit to) the colleges that interest you!

If you are interested in delving deeper into this topic or would like to hear some of our Kolbe families’ personal experiences, we have a few Kolbecast episodes that offer excellent information and tips for families with students in this exciting phase. Be sure to check out the following episodes:

May the Lord bless and guide each of our students preparing, planning, or in the process of choosing a college or university for their further studies.
